General Knowledge About MRI Test Scan

In the simplest way, it is possible to describe Magnetic Resonance, MR, as the technique of creating images through radiofrequency waves in a strong magnetic field environment. Being a radiation-free technique, MRI is also used for imaging soft tissues.

How is it applied?

During the MR examination, the patient needs to lie in a prone tube, in a prone position, without any movement. Since this tube is large, it does not usually cause discomfort. People with a fear of confined space can be given a mild sedative before shooting.

Before the examination, a thin catheter is inserted into the patient's arm vein, and a drug called contrast material, which is unlikely to be allergic, is injected through this catheter during shooting. Contrast agents used in MR examinations can be used except for people with kidney failure. Breast MR Shots can take 30-60 minutes. It is important to first know the MRI test cost in Noida.

What Should Be Considered?

Other examinations may also be needed: MRI examination of the breast can provide valuable information that cannot be obtained by other imaging methods. However, it still does not replace mammography or ultrasonography. All reviews provide different information and all findings need to be evaluated together.

In Which Cases Is It Recommended?

  • To determine whether there is more than one cancer focus in the breast before surgery in patients who have breast cancer and breast-sparing treatment is planned.
  • To understand whether cancer has spread to the chest wall and the opposite breast in patients with breast cancer
  • In women who have been treated for breast cancer due to breast cancer, changes in the breast related to surgery can be distinguished from recurrent cancer.
  • In the elucidation of any suspicious situation detected in mammography, ultrasonography or manual examination
  • In the evaluation of the success of chemotherapy in patients with advanced breast cancer
  • For screening purposes, in determining whether high-risk women have breast cancer
  • In determining the main cancer focus in patients with metastatic cancer.
  • In determining whether there is any damage to the prosthesis in women with silicone prosthesis and evaluating the suspicious findings in the breast.
  • Who Is Not Recommended?
  • For those who have metallic objects on their body
  • Those with severe kidney failure
  • Those who are allergic to MR contrast agents
  • For those who cannot lie still for a long time
  • To overweight people

According to other breast imaging methods;

  1. More information can be obtained. In this way, many cancer foci, which cannot be shown by other methods, can be detected. However, MR is not seen alone in detecting breast cancer.
  2. Intense breasts, treated breasts, silicone prosthetic breasts, which are difficult to evaluate in mammography, can be examined.
  3. With MRI, especially in high-risk women, screening results can be obtained according to mammography and ultrasonography.
  4. Breast cancers and very specific breast cancers cannot be detected by MR. Therefore, it should always be evaluated in conjunction with other imaging methods and clinical examination findings.

According to other imaging methods;

  • Suspicious findings can be detected in MR in benign diseases of the breast. Therefore, unnecessary biopsy or surgery may be required.
  • Breast cancers and very specific breast cancers cannot be detected by MR. Therefore, it should always be evaluated in conjunction with other imaging methods and clinical examination findings.
  • If suspicious findings that can only be visualized with MRI are detected, the biopsy should be performed under MR guidance.

Successful results are obtained especially with the imaging of soft tissues with MRI done by MRI scan centres in east Delhi. Many cancer foci that cannot be detected by other diagnostic methods can be detected. However, MR is not seen alone in detecting breast cancer.
