3 Major Blood Tests and Their Importance

  • Lipid profile- Lipid profile is basically a panel of different tests that helps in examining the abnormalities in lipids. It measures the triglycerides, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol. The test is important to identify the risk of any cardiovascular disease and pancreatitis.
  • Liver Function Test (LFT) - This particular test determines the health of your liver. It helps in diagnosing liver infections, cirrhosis and measures the levels of liver enzymes & proteins.  Liver Function Test is significant to ensure that your liver is functioning properly and maintaining balance in hormones.
  • Kidney Function Test (KFT) - Any issues in kidney are identified in this test. It examines the presence of protein in the urine and production of creatinine in your blood. For this, the urine sample of the patient is collected and is checked for any kidney abnormalities. If the check-up is not done on time, it may result into failure of your kidney.

Besides this, the other tests include Thyroid Function Test (TFT), Haemogram, stool routine examination, blood grouping & Rh typing, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), mammography, USG of abdomen and many others. What is CT with contrast?

The CTS- Computed tomography is a diagnostic imaging method that, by exploiting the radiation, can represent the human body in the sections (tomography) performed according to axial planes, that is, with transversal cuts from head to toe. The X-ray tube, the element that emits X-rays, rotates around the patient, lying on a bed that moves horizontally.

The radiation passing through the patient's body are then converted into analog electrical signals and converted into digital data. In the most recent equipment (TAC multilayer or multidetector), sections, initially acquired according to the axial plane, can easily be reconstructed, without loss of detail, in all planes of space, sometimes using sophisticated dedicated reconstruction software.

What is CT scan with contrast?

The CT scan is used in motions fields: neurological, skeletal, trauma, thoracic, abdominal, cancer, gynecological, vascular and cardiac. With the multilayer, TAC can be displayed well not only the internal organs of the human body but also the arteries and veins.

What are contrast agents?

The contrast agents are substances or materials a radiology technician can be administered during a medical test to help better View the tissues and structures in your body. Commonly used in a computed tomography (CT) scans or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests, the contrast media can help doctors diagnose certain medical conditions. While a severe reaction from the substances is rare, side effects and adverse reactions are possible.

The exam is designed exclusively for the study of the parenchyma (brain, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, and uterus), the arterial blood vessels (aorta) and venous, soft tissue (muscle fascia), bones and joints.

How does the CT scan performed with contrast medium?

The patient is made to lie on a bed which flows through a short tunnel. There are claustrophobic. During the examination, it could be injected into a vein in the arm a contrast medium containing iodine, to make some details more visible (vascular structures and parenchyma). The injection causes a sensation of heat rather intense, but that fades quickly.

Contraindications

There are no absolute contraindications to the execution of a CT scan. Since it uses X-rays, it is however not recommended for pregnant women and children.

The use of contrast medium can be contraindicated in the case of previous allergic reaction to contrast media, renal insufficiency, severe heart failure and other rare conditions. In the case of doubt, please contact your doctor or medical department.

How to find best CT scan price?

While the prices for CT scan are usually dependent on the type of test, you are undergoing as well as the center or clinic you opt for, yet there are chances to get the lowest cost CT scan in Delhi. Search for the best offered price for CT Scan on our website www.3hcare.in with reputed and renowned centers.

Is CT Scan Imaging Same as MRI?

Both MRI and CT are two of the significant advances in current medicine since they allow the examination and detection of diseases using non-invasive methods, without the use of pesky and aggressive techniques such as lumbar punctures or arthrography for the patients.

For both reviews, the patient should lie on a stretcher and enter a relatively narrow cylindrical tunnel. The difference is that in MRI test the tube is a large electromagnetic magnet that allows you to take pictures of the inside of the body by subjecting it to a magnetic field. In a CT, the images are taken using an X-ray beam that makes a circular movement that surrounds the area to be investigated (multiple X-rays from various angles).

With the CT tests, it is possible to reconstruct in three dimensions the area explored, which is very useful when planning a surgery and is the order of the day to locate and treat tumors. Both are image tests, but they are not the same. The CT Scan cost is highly dependent on the scan center and clinic you are going for!

Magnetic resonance uses powerful magnetic fields to produce and detect changes at the molecular level of substances like the hydrogen that contains our body. These changes are very subtle and disappear when we leave the machine, but the machine can detect them and translate them into images of the interior of the body.

Both CT and resonance allow us to explore the inside of the body, but each one is more sensitive to a particular type of injury, so your doctor will indicate the one that is most appropriate as the case may be.

What is a CT Scan Test? What Does it Consist of?

The CT scan test is performed with a device called a scanner. During this test, the body is subjected to multiple rays released simultaneously from different angles, and then a computer assembles them to generate an image of the area to be studied. CT scanning is more detailed than an x-ray since only a beam of light is used on the current x-ray.

Because CT scan is a non-invasive procedure that provides detailed cross-sectional views of all tissue types, it is becoming the ideal method to diagnose many intestinal diseases such as diverticulitis and appendicitis and to visualize the liver, spleen, pancreas and the kidneys.

And Magnetic Resonance- What Does it Consist of?

On the other hand, Magnetic Resonance is a machine that allows obtaining an image of the soft tissues of a patient using the use of a magnetic field. Powerful magnets and radio waves are used to create body images. The main difference between CT and MRI test is that the second one does not use X-rays. Other differences are that the CT scan is faster to perform but has a lower resolution.

Because MRI test can give such clear images of the soft tissues around the bones, it is the most appropriate examination for spine and joint problems. It is also widely used to diagnose sports injuries, especially in the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow, and wrist. The images allow the doctor to see even tiny tears and lesions in the ligaments and muscles.

Thyroid Ultrasound - Conditions and Essential Information

Thyroid Ultrasound

Ultrasound can be used to check for an overactive or hypoactive gland. An ultrasound may also be ordered if your doctor considers a thyroid tumor when examining the neck. Thyroid ultrasound is used to look at the thyroid, a gland located in the neck that regulates metabolism and conducted at Ultrasound clinics.

How is Ultrasound Performed?

The ultrasound is a painless method that uses sound waves to create images from inside the body. The examination is conducted at the ultrasound lab or clinic.

The patient lies with the neck extended beyond its usual limit (hyperextended). The radiologist applies a lubricating gel on the neck and then passes a wand, called a transducer, over the area.

The transducer releases sound waves, which pass through the body and bounce from the area under study (in this case, the thyroid gland). A computer analyzes the pattern that sound waves create when they bounce and make an image.

Why Thyroid Ultrasound?

Ultrasound Test is safe and non-painful and produces images of the interior of the body using sound waves. It involves the use of a small transducer (probe) and an ultrasound gel for exposing the body to high-frequency acoustic waves. The transducer picks up the bouncing sounds, and a computer then uses those sound waves to create an image.

Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as used on x-rays). Since the ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the internal organs of the body, as well as the blood flowing through the blood vessels.

Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive medical examination that helps doctors diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Thyroid Ultrasound Test produces images of the thyroid gland and adjacent structures in the neck. The thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck, just above the clavicle bone, and is butterfly shaped, with a lobe on each side of the neck connected by a narrow band of tissue. It is one of nine endocrine glands located in the body that produces and send hormones to the bloodstream.

Some of the Common Uses of the Procedure

Usually, the ultrasound of the thyroid is used:

  • To determine if a lump in the neck originates in the thyroid or any adjacent structure
  • To analyze the appearance of the nodules in the thyroid and thus determine if they are one of the most common benign nodules    or if the nodule has characteristics that require a biopsy. If a biopsy is needed, fine-needle aspiration guided by ultrasound can  help improve biopsy accuracy.
  • To look for additional nodules in patients with one or more nodules palpated on a physical examination
  • To see if a thyroid nodule has grown substantially over time

Since ultrasound provides real-time imaging (images that are continuously renewed), it can also be used to guide procedures such as aspiration biopsy, in which a needle is used to extract samples of cells from an abnormal area to be subjected to Laboratory analysis. Ultrasound is also used to aid the insertion of a catheter or other drainage device and helps ensure accurate placement and drainage of the fluid for diagnosis and relief of patient discomfort.
